Match Preview – Maltby Main

In what has been a hectic morning of a 3pm Kick Off against Selby Town to the game being called off, to now hosting Maltby Main for today preseason friendly. Craig Rouse’s men will be looking to push on from last week’s opening fixture.

Maltby Main are members of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, based in South Yorkshire (Rotherham). Maltby and The Colls are not too dissimilar with both clubs having proud Mining History, as Maltby were formed in 1916 with all their players working at Maltby Main Colliery.

Maltby is a former mining town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It was historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The place-name ‘Maltby’ is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Maltebi. The name means ‘Malti’s homestead or village’.

The last time the two sides met, it was a momentous occasions for two reasons. Firstly this fixture set a world record for the number of DOGS in attendance at a football game. It will however be remember most by Colls fans, for it being the day Ponte secured promotion into the Northern Premier League for the first time in our history.

Maltby began last season in good form, as they finished the eventually curtailed season in fifth with 18 points from their ten games. They also got their preseason campaign underway in style last week, as they handed Brigg Town a 5-1 defeat.
