A hectic morning as Selby Town had to pull out due to Covid Precautions, we were left with a potential lost fixture. Maltby Main were left in a similar position as their game with Selston was also called off.
On a hot muggy day The Colls started attacking the Skinner Lane end, it wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken. The ball found itself to Mikey Dunn who faked to shoot twice, first beating the defender before leaving the goalkeeper stranded and firing home.
Your hosts continued to play on the front foot, Scott Smith’s deflected shot came after more great attacking play down the right hand side.
It was soon two nil as Ponte played more fluid football, fine intricate one touch passing saw Gavin Rothery in on goal. He kept his cool to slot passed the stranded ‘keeper.
The Colls continued to pile on the pressure, a long throw in from the left flank by Jack Greenhough. The ball dropped to Mikey Dunn in the box but his shot was blocked. Rothery acted fastest and his shot deflected in off of Mikey Dunn, for his second of the match.
The midfield duo of Jack Vann and Danny Middleton controlled proceedings, the latter tested the visiting keeper after he dispossessed his man and hit a dipping effort goal bound.
Ponte Colls were enjoying themselves, Mikey Dunn turned his man inside and out leaving him on the turf. The visitors had a couple of chances themselves, but nothing that tested Ryan Musselwhite enough to be worried.
As the half time whistle approached Ponte pushed for another, more good football down the left hand side saw Gavin Rothery reach the by-line. He put in an inch perfect cross which was smartly converted from six yards out by Scott Smith.

The second half was a much tighter affair with both teams making a number of changes. This certainly affected the flow of the game, however Ponte still had chances to increase their advantage.
After a suspected kick out from the Maltby man, both teams came together including both sets of dugouts too. Nothing given as the referee simple separated the two teams before restarting play.
Charlie Clegg had the best chance of the half to score Ponte’s fifth, but the deflection on the cross from Ben Gordon just evaded the young forward man.
The full time whistle blew, which saw Ponte scoring four first half goals and a first clean sheet of preseason.
