Match Report: Ponte Colls 0-2 Ossett United (14.08.21)

The first game of the season was finally upon us, after what felt like years. A West Yorkshire Derby between two sides who have locked horns in recent years.

Ponte set up with Callum Brook making his debut in a much changed back four, with Jack Greenhough and Spencer Clarke away.

The game got off to a fast start, both sides looking to get their foot on the ball. Ponte and Ossett had forays forward but nothing of note. Ponte had a large share of the possession for the first 25 minutes but Ossett began to take a foot hold after from there.

With ten minutes to go till half time, Ossett struck the bar when it was easier to score. Musselwhite was rounded but the shot was high and skimmed off the bar and over.

With 38 minutes on the clock, the Ossett man was pulled down by Brown and the resulting free kick curled perfectly into the top corner. Giving Ossett United a one nil lead, through Aaron Haswell.

The second half saw Ponte come out firing, with one shot from Dunn cleared off the line, Redford hitting the post and Eli Hey having two good chances in front of goal.

But Ossett who stood strong at the back we’re waiting for their opportunity to break forward and grab a second. They did just that with four minutes to go, George Green was among five players breaking forward he cut inside and slid past Musselwhite to make it two.

The visitors game plan worked on the day and they deserved to take three points, but their were positives to take from the game despite a disappointing result.

Next up the Colls travel to Pickering Town in match day two.
