The Colls fell to a third straight defeat – but showed a lot of fight and heart in the second half and could have even taken a point in the end.
A couple of changes to The Colls line up saw Ben Turner, Jimmy Williams and Joe Lumsden coming into the starting line up. The latter returning for his second home debut.
The game got off to a scrappy start, with a number of fouls in the early exchanges. Then with just under ten on the clock, a free kick for Marske saw a knock down from Boyes volleyed home by Mondal. 0-1 Marske.
The visitors were fully in the ascendancy and had chances to double their lead, only to either fluff their lines or be denied by a Ponte man.
With 36 minutes on the clock we saw the games next key moment. A through ball put Mondal in on goal against Allinson, who came out to pressure his opponent. Mondal prodded the ball passed Allinson and was hacked down. Allinson saw red for the challenge, despite not denying a clear and obvious shot on goal.
It was our centre back Jimmy Williams who took over the gloves in Allinson’s absence, with no substitute keeper. However this was Williams’ third stand in for The Colls, where he hadn’t conceded in his previous two.
The first cross into the Ponte box claimed by Williams was met with cheers from the home crowd, these soon wore off as Williams dealt with the danger coming his way.
The referee was then handed a chance to even up the playing field, as Marske’s captain went in high on João Rangel only to brandish a yellow card.
‘The Seasiders’ were unable to make their advantage count before the referees half time whistle.
Second Half saw Ponte come out with nothing to lose and began to get the ball forward more and created a couple of openings.
It was Marske who almost doubled their lead early in the half. Mondal missed his shot on goal before Jack Greenhough twice cleared off the line.
João Rangel was the first to have a clear cut chance for Ponte, smart hold up from Joe Lumsden and Nick Guest set Rangel away but his shot was just wide.
Just over an hour on the clock and Ponte were to feel aggrieved again. A long throw was met by Ben Turner, who was then flattened by the opposing ‘keeper. The linesman waved his flag only to signal a head injury, but only to decide there was no foul play.
As both sides pushed for the games second goal it was the Ponte (stand in) stopper that was tested next, a free kick 35 yards from goal was deflected to be met by a diving save.
The Colls threw everything at it, including sending both centre backs forward but were unable to snatch a point.
