Following a disappointing defeat away at Grimsby Borough in the week, Ponte now face another away trip this time to North Shields this weekend. Following a run of good results we squandered a chance to close in on the play off places – but ended on the wrong side of a 2-0 score line.
We caught up with player/coach Gavin Rothery for his reaction and a look forward to a big game;
We suffered a frustrating defeat in the week at Grimsby, what was most disappointing about the result and performance?
The result was obviously disappointing after being on a decent run going in to the game. The performance level wasn’t up to our usual standards on the night and Grimsby deserved the win. The lads all know we can be a lot better, all over the pitch both in and out of possession.
Although looking back on the game we did have some good chances to score and we hit the bar twice in the last five minutes, but we know it wasn’t good enough.
After a good run of results, how important is it to get back on the horse this Saturday?
It is good that we have another game so quick to show a reaction and put the performance right. We need to step up now on Saturday, as a group against North Shields and get back to playing the way we know we’re capable of. If we do this the result will follow.
We’ve played North Shields twice so far this campaign, what will we need to do to get a victory this time around?
Yes it will be another tough game, they have some good attacking players who are quick and look to run in behind – so we need to be prepared for that as a back line. We need to be aggressive, play on the front foot and have more quality on the ball in their half to create more chances. If we do this I’m confident we can get back to winning ways.
