Going into this play off battle both sides were on unbeaten runs, Dunston winning their last three and Ponte Colls unbeaten in six. The first half started slowly as both sides were looking to get into the game, Adam Haw almost got on the end of a through ball before it was snaffles by the keeper.
The closest either side came to scoring was when a Jack Boyle free kick was glanced towards goal, narrowly missing the far post. As the half time whistle approached it was almost the visitors who scored. A cross from the left was stopped by Burns, but required Petrovic to make a save.
In tough conditions with blinding sun and strong winds, neither side dominated, but Dunston were awarded a penalty despite the advantage being played. But the Ponte stopper was able to keep it out.
Connor Smythe and Adam Haw had good opportunities, but a stiff defence were keen to stand firm and maintain their clean sheet.
As the clock struck 90 we were in for a mad ten minutes. Spratt was adjudged to have fouled Djalo on the touchline, the resulting free kick was glanced home by Jack Maskell. With two minutes of added time remaining Pontefract pushed forward and as the ball dropped in the box, it fell to Bailey Thompson to fire in on home debut.
A point a piece was fair and in truth the last ten minutes were more interesting than the rest of the encounter.
