Colls Match Report – Stockton (a)

The Collieries left Teesside with a share of spoils as we held league leaders Stockton Town 0-0.

Pontefract arrived at the map group UK stadium looking to extend their strong away form, plus last weeks victory at Liversedge. Craig Rouse made A couple of enforced changes with Jack Greenhough, Danny Burns and Mikey Dunn being replaced by Elliot Owen, Jamie Sharman and Frankie Sinfield.

Six minutes in Frankie Sinfield picked up the ball in wide areas he worked A cross into the box, Jamie Sharman met it at the back post but Nathan Harker made a simple save.

Stockton then had a chance of their own to score, a break away down the right saw Kevin Hayes bear down on goal. He opted to square the ball, but Elliot Owen slid in to save a certain goal.

The first half saw A number of challenges fly in with the referee trying to keep the peace. Another lunging tackle from a Stockton man led to a foul on the edge of the box, but Frankie Sinfield saw his free kick strike the wall.

As the half time whistle approached, the hosts had one final attack where Kevin Hayes found himself inside The Colls box only to miss the target and find the side netting.

The second half saw Ponte have the first chance, A corner in from the right was dropped under pressure by Harker, Steers turned the ball home only for the referee to rule it out for A foul on the keeper.

Stockton after this claimed something of a foothold in the game, as they had started to force opportunities on goal, but Lloyd Allinson and his back four were holding firm.

As the half wore on it was Pontefract that looked like the side most likely to find the winner. Harry Spratt found substitute Jack Boyle away down the left flank, he cut inside hit a shot that deflected into the path of Louie Chorlton who hit the crossbar – only for the officials flag to signal offside.

More chances followed this time Adam Haw drawing A save after his shot from range dipped and swerved. The ball was recycled before Chorlton and Thompson saw their efforts saved and then heroically blocked.

Bailey Thompson then had the ball into the back of the net, when his lobbed shot beat the Stockton keeper only for the offside flag to go up.

The full time whistle sounded to end an action packed contest that had plenty of chances, but lacked the clinical end finish. A fair result and another good point on the road for Pontefract.

Next up for us is a West Yorkshire County Cup quarter final at home to Campion AFC, come down this Tuesday night and get behind the boys!
