Pontefract Collieries 2-3 Bridlington Town | Late Fightback Falls Short

The Colls fell to defeat at home as our unbeaten run came to an end, as Bridlington edged a five-goal encounter at The Hunters Stadium.

The visitors struck first, taking the lead through a swift counter attack. Alex Markham’s delivery into the box was met by Josh Barrett, who guided his header into the far corner to put Bridlington in front.

Ponte looked to respond but were dealt another blow when a set piece caused chaos in the box, falling kindly for Barrett once again, who made no mistake in doubling his tally and Bridlington’s lead.

The Colls came out with renewed intent after the break and quickly halved the deficit. A well delivered corner found Danny Burns, who powered home a header to give us something to build on.

However, just as Pontefract began to build momentum, Bridlington restored their two-goal advantage. Another set piece proved to be their weapon of choice, as Benn Lewis found himself unmarked at the back post to convert.

As the game entered stoppage time, Pontefract set up a tense finale when Jack Greenhough’s header from yet another corner nestled into the net. Despite the late drama, it wasn’t enough to salvage a point, as Bridlington held on to claim victory and took all three points back to the east coast.

A disappointing result for Jimmy Williams’ side, who saw their seven game unbeaten run come to an end. Attention now turns to the next challenge as Colls look to bounce back next weekend at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels.
