Colls settled for a point on the road, as they stretch unbeaten run to five in all competitions.
This fixture with Carlton had twice been rescheduled due to waterlogged pitches, thanks to the winter’s conditions clubs up and down the country have had to deal with. But this fixture had a little twist, The Colls would play Carlton at Basford United’s ground – at the league’s request.
The start to proceedings was delayed in Nottinghamshire, as our team coach found itself stuck in M1 traffic – leading to a thirty minute delayed kick off time of 8:15pm.
When the game finally got underway it was Pontefract that came out of the blocks, Sinfield and Haw combining to get in behind without being able to test the ‘keeper.
Both sides looked dangerous on the front foot with wide men looking to get in behind, Carlton had their best chance of the night when their left winger ran clear – but under pressure dragged wide when bearing down on goal.
The ‘home side’ had their no. 1 to thank as he made a number of crucial interventions as a sweeper keeper to keep his side level. But he looked beaten when Jack Steers headed against the post from a whipped in corner.
The second half started the same way as the first did, Callum Nicell got in behind on the right and put in a good cross. Frankie Sinfield got up well at the back stick, but couldn’t keep his header on target.
The next fifteen minutes saw both sides looking to win the midfield battle and try to get the upper hand without success.
The Colls ended the match the stronger of the two teams, Sinfield against with a chance to break the deadlock but he was denied by a routine save. Carlton had a number of set pieces and throw ins to deal with late on and provided stiff resistance to keep the game goalless.
A good result away at a side looking to jump into the play off spots, leaving Ponte up into fourth on goal difference. Next up is a trip to Bridlington Town on Non League Day.
Attendance; 134.
