Colls pick up third win of preseason in ‘game of two halves’

The Colls continued their winning ways with a third pre-season victory, over NCEL Division One side Selby Town at The Hunters Stadium in Tuesday night.

Starting XI: Lloyd Allinson, Jack Greenhough (C), Trialist, Callum Nicell, Jack Steers, Matty Nebard, Rob Guilfoyle, Jack Boyle, Adam Haw, Adam Priestley, Nash Connolly.

The sun was shining over Pontefract as the scene was set for the 201 attendees, for this Tuesday night kickoff.

Rob Guilfoyle hoped to add to his preseason goal tally early on, as he rattled the bar with a free kick from 25 yards out in the seventh minute of play.

Ten minutes later, Adam Haw was brought down in the Selby box and the referee blew for a penalty, which was calmly slotted away by Haw to open the scoring for The Colls.

In the 20th minute, Selby almost equalised after a deflected free kick struck the Ponte post.

A strong counter followed as The Colls moved the ball down the right wing and a ball in from Guilfoyle, was headed towards goal by Haw before the linesman’s flag went up for offside.

A minute later, a Rory Delap like throw from the left fell to Jack Steers who on the turn, volleyed low into the corner to double the lead for The Colls.

The scoring continued only five minutes later as another great play down the right, saw debutant Jack Boyle in space, his cross bounced around the box eventually finding Nash Connolly who volleyed in off the keepers hand for a Ponte third.

The first half came to a close and Harry Flatters, Danny Burns, Ben Turner, Joel Learmouth and Jimmy Williams entered the field for the second half.

Selby pulled one back in the 52nd minute after a loose ball fell to the visitors and the ball was worked into the box and flicked home for 3-1.

Ten minutes later, Selby had their second but fortunately for The Colls, it was ruled offside by the linesman.

Rob Guilfoyle came back on for Adam Priestley in the 71st minute and after Williams pulled up with an injury in the 84th minute, Priestley re-entered the field. We did mention this was pre-season right?

The game ended with a superb save by Flatters to secure the win for The Colls.
