We caught up with young defender Jack Shepherd to discuss his and The Colls recent form, as well as discuss fans impact and moving forward for the rest of the season.
With no game this weekend for the boys, we look back on a month of positives for The Colls. How have you enjoyed the role you have played in this current run of results?
Yeah it’s been great, the togetherness of the group is top class. I’ve really enjoyed playing in the games and getting the results we deserve, it’s definitely been coming and the feeling is just spreading around the changing room.
You made your first start for Ponte in the away game at Shildon and have gone from strength to strength since then, how have you found the step up to the Northern Premier League?
It’s been tough, but it’s what I expected. With the lads and opposition being that little bit sharper and stronger, it was never going to be a walk in the park to step up. But I think with great advice from the boys and coaching staff, I feel it’s really helped my game and I’m looking to carry on performances just like they’ve been from the group over the last few weeks.
Last time out we got a much deserved point at league leader Liversegde, how pleased were you with the overall performance and then what was it like celebrating with the away fans?
I thought we played really well and and executed the game plan set by the gaffer, you can tell they are a big strong side and why they get the results they do. But I thought we matched them in that department.
Yes it was great celebrating the goal with the fans it’s nice to give them something back when they travel all over to support us.
Finally, The boys have been on the up over the last month. What are you looking for personally and as a group going into the second half of the season?
We’ve had a great month of performances – as I said before – I feel like the group has been great since I joined, but we just hadn’t been getting the rub of the green in certain scenarios. Now we’re turning the performances into results and we will looking to carry this on through the season, then we can start looking up the table at the teams above us.
Who knows what can happen come the end of the season, but I will look to keep improving performances in my own game and with the team I feel we can really start climbing the league table.
