The Blues with a full squad had their first taste of Division 1 level football which proved literally a game of two halfs.
The Colls up against an experienced Adwick side with some Academy level players held their own in the opening five minutes and found themselves 1-0 up thanks to a wonder half way line strike from the simply outstanding Liv P. Wow! Adwick shaken by the early goal, were quick in their stride and hit back to level the game after some good attacking play. The next 10 minutes were even with both sides having great chances. Lexi was excellent in goal pulling off some great saves. A solid defence of Harriet, Liv P and Emme kept the score line level. A midfield of Jessie, Jess & Teegan C battled hard to create chances and were rewarded when Anna was played in provided a superb cross for Katie who stuck just wide of the post. Great play blues going into the break.
Into the second half, and with a full squad saw a big changes at half time with the Colls new players of Teegan S, Bella, as well as Amashi, Olive & Liv E getting some experience at this level. Despite some good play and great battling from the girls Adwick capitalised against the less experienced side to score 3 quick goals taking the score to 4-1. A reshuffle to put some more experience on the pitch and change some tired legs saw the blues back in the game. Lexi now in a attacking position had 2 fantastic chances to score, one was well saved by the keeper and one went just wide.Great play Lexi skipping past those Adwick defenders. The blues were then awarded a free kick just outside the box. Liv P stepped up & hit a lovely strike which went just above the crossbar. The blues were unlucky not be level. Some great driving runs from Bella, Liv E and Olive finally paid off when the mighty Anna was played in on the left side of the box to smash it in for 4-2.
Adwick upped the ante with some good attacking play. Teegan S & Amashi put some important tackles in to break up play. Emme then pulled off a fantastic finger tip save to push the ball past the post. The Blues with their never give in attitude kept pressing and were denied a certain penalty when Katie who battled all match was fouled in the box.
Battered & bruised after some crunching tackles time run out for the Colls and the match finished 4-2 to Adwick. On balance the blues deserved a draw but it wasn’t meant to be, however really valuable experience for the team.
After another fantastic performance & goal Liv P again was awarded Player of the match from Adwick. The Blues player of the match was Lexi for her fantastic goalie skills in the 1st half and attacking play in the second half. Well done girls! #UTC
