Match Report: Bishop Auckland 1-1 Colls

Pontefract Collieries left Bishop Auckland with a hard-earned point in a game that saw both sides dominate at different stages. The match ended 1-1 after a tense and eventful 90 minutes.

The first half belonged to the home side, as The Bishops looked well-organised and dangerous throughout. Ponte had early opportunities, with Rothery mishitting an effort from inside the box and Boyle and Ofoegbu also coming close.

However, it was Bishop Auckland who made their dominance count. On 16 minutes, a well-worked move down the left culminated in a pinpoint cross that found midfielder Bartliff, who headed home unmarked to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Despite further pressure from the home side, Ponte’s defence held firm to prevent further damage.

Manager Jimmy Williams reacted at halftime, introducing Louie Chorlton, and the change paid off almost immediately. A surging run down the left from Ceesay led to a smart move involving Rothery and Boyle, with the latter playing a perfect pass to Chorlton, who controlled and finished calmly to level the score.

Ponte almost snatched a second when substitute Mikey Dunn cut inside from the left and unleashed a shot that rattled the bar.

The game opened up in the final stages, with both teams pushing for a winner. Chorlton delivered a perfect cross for Connor Smythe, but the substitute couldn’t find the finishing touch to secure all three points.

In the end, The Colls held firm and ensured they took a point back to West Yorkshire, with the final score 1-1.

Attention now turns to Friday night’s FA Trophy clash against City of Liverpool.
