The Colls registered back to back wins with a big away win on the east coast. The hosts went into the game as strong favourites, especially when taking a glance at the league table. But it was The Colls who were well worthy of all three points on the road.
It was Ponte who started the brighter of the two sides, pinning their hosts into their half and forcing three straight corners, one of which required a last ditch block to deny Scott Brown and Joe Lumsden.
The opening goal came on twenty one minutes, The Colls again camped in the Cleethorpes half and won a free kick in the right hand channel. Jack Lazenby stepped up and found the head of Luke Hinsley, he turned it goal bound only for the Cleethorpes defender to deflect it passed his stranded keeper and in. 0-1 Colls.
The Owls trailing then began to have their first real spell of their own. Lloyd Allinson was called into action to deny the on rushing forward, before a fantastic last ditch slide tackle from Callum Brook denied a great chance.
A great half from Ponte in which they deserved to lead going into the second half.
The second half saw Cleethorpes come out looking to make amends for the first half, but once more the travelling fans were able to celebrate some excellent defending. Lloyd Allinson made another smart save to tip over a well hit shot, whilst Scott Brown and Jack Shepherd held firm in the heart of defence.
Ponte were still lively on the counter attack but struggled to find a clear cut chance to seal the game. Cleethorpes appealed for a penalty for a challenge fro Scott Brown, but it was perfectly timed to win the ball in the area.
As the game headed to a close and inside four minutes of five added on for stoppages. Ponte pressed forward to keep the ball in the final third. A loose clearance from the defender fell to Jack Vann around 30 yards from goal, his first touch brought the ball down for him to left off a rasping drive that was passed the keeper before he could move. A goal of the season contender if ever there was one. Jack Vann had taken the armband with absences to Spencer Clarke and the recovering Jack Greenhough, he sealed a fantastic performance in a real captains effort.
At full time the players and fans showed their appreciation for one another for a fantastic result, which took all three points back to Pontefract.
