Pontefract Collieries were held to a 1-1 draw against Consett AFC in front of a crowd of 267 at the weekend. In a match where clear-cut chances were scarce, both sides relied on set pieces to find the back of the net.
The deadlock was broken right before halftime when Danny Burns rose highest to meet a trademark long throw from Jack Greenhough, heading home to give Pontefract a 1-0 lead. The hosts dominated much of the second half, pushing for a second goal, but Consett remained resilient in defense.
The visitors struck back with 74 minutes played, with Isaac Walker finding the equaliser. After a well-worked short corner, Walker cut inside and unleashed a shot into the far corner, ensuring Consett took a valuable point back to the North East.
Despite pressing late, Pontefract couldn’t find a winner. A big thanks to our Match Sponsors, Your Space Gym – Pontefract, and Petra Associates for their support.
Next up for Pontefract is an away trip to Bishop Auckland on Tuesday night, where they’ll look to get back to winning ways.
