The Colls were unable to make it three wins in a row, as they fell to a home defeat to north east side Dunston over the weekend. A slow start left The Colls with an uphill task, made harder by two quick yellow cards for captain Spencer Clarke.
The visitors were the brighter of the two sides, who both were safe from relegation and wouldn’t be able to reach the play offs. Ponte were unable to get a foot hold in the game and created very little in a first half of little positives.
Dunston took the lead on 16 minutes, a free kick was curled in from the left hand side and was glanced in passed Lloyd Allinson by Richard Coulson.
Spencer Clarke chopped down his man and received a yellow card. He then was given his marching orders following a soft free kick on the edge of the area, where he was adjudged to pull down the Dunston forward.
Things went from bad to worse then, a long ball forward cleared the Ponte back line and Richard Coulson was first to react again. He beat Lloyd Allinson to the loose ball and was on hand to roll the ball home to make it 0-2.
The second half whistle came right on call for Ponte, they started the second half much better and were looking to get on the ball much more.
Before the hour we had a game on, Luke Hinsley finished off some smart interchange from Joe Lumsden and Mikey Dunn. The latter rolled the ball on for Hinsley to fire low passed the ‘keeper.
The Colls continued to press on for an equaliser and almost got one through second half sub Rob Guilfoyle, he volleyed on goal following a flick on. However the keeper stood firm to make a smart diving save.
Dunston were able to hang on and claim all three points, to take back north with them. They completed a league double over Ponte following a win earlier in the season.
