The Colls score late winner to secure a passage to the next round of the FA Cup. Priestley scored within a minute of being brought on as sub to spark wild scenes behind the goal.
After victory in the extra preliminary over Garforth Town, The Colls travelled to the North East to Stockton Town. The hosts had won both league matches against Worksop Town and Ossett United, so this was going to be a stiff test.
With the game underway both sides looked to win the midfield battle early on – Stockton fired wide after six minutes before a long throw from Greenhough found the head of Picton, whose header was inches wide of the mark.
Neither side were able to gain control in the first half as the wind created issues for both teams. Lumsden was the next to have an effort on goal but his shot curled over from inside the Stockton box.
With the half hour approaching a ball in behind the Stockton defence with Lumsden in pursuit, both keeper and defender went for the same ball and Lumsden was on hand to tap into the empty net! 0-1 Colls.
Both sides looked to add to the scoresheet without coming too close, but with one minute of normal time remaining the sides were level. A well worked move saw ball whipped in and headed home by Mulligan. 1-1.
At the break Ponte could feel hard done by, but there was plenty more football to come and to be playing with the wind with them second half.
The Yorkshire side were the first to fire at goal in the second half, Joe Lumsden found space in the box but volleyed over.
Stockton then had a free kick in a dangerous position, the ball swung in was headed home by the home skipper with a dominating header. 2-1.
A foul was given for a heavy tackle on Jack Vann, this was swung in and Spencer Clarke lept up for it. He wasn’t able to win the header, but his marker turned it into his own top corner. 2-2.
Neither side were playing for a reply and Lumsden hit another shot wide and Allinson was forced into a point blank save. Another shot hit the bar and another stop on the rebound from Allinson.
Craig Rouse then turned to his bench and brought on James Baxendale and Mikey Dunn, which brought more energy to us going forward.
Gavin Allott was played through on goal and with the ’keeper staring him down his lofted effort went just over.
Ponte began to get on top and creating chances but with the clock running down it was time for Adam Priestley.
Rouse brought on the forward and within second he was involved. A ball over the top played Mikey Dunn away, his pass across the box was inch perfect for Priestly to sweep home! Elation for Ponte, 2-3.
The Colls had chances to extend their lead but they didn’t need to, as the full time whistle blew to secure their route to the next round.
A fantastic away result for the boys, another cup run perhaps?
