The Colls extended their winning run to four games with a solid 2-0 victory away at Bridlington Town, where Jack Greenhough’s brace sealed a comfortable win.
The match began with both sides exchanging early chances, the best coming from a Greenhough header off a near post corner by Jack Boyle that went just wide. Greenhough then opened the scoring on 15 minutes in unusual fashion. After a low cross from the right, Bridlington’s ex-Ponte keeper Seb Malkowski held the ball on the line, but he appeared to step back slightly, and the assistant referee judged the ball had crossed the line, giving Ponte a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Ponte doubled their advantage. A free kick from the edge of the box was floated to the back post where Danny Burns rose highest to nod it back across goal. With the Bridlington keeper stranded, Greenhough leaped to head the ball in from close range, securing his second goal of the night.
The rest of the half was controlled comfortably by Ponte, with keeper Will Mitchell only called upon once, making a solid low save in a 1v1 situation.
As players left the field at halftime, tensions rose with Bridlington’s keeper Malkowski and manager Denny Ingram both shown red cards for dissent after an apparent dispute over the opening goal – the latter appeared to be showing the referee a picture of the Malkowski goal incident.
Bridlington returned to the second half with 10 men and outfield player Pete Davidson stepping in as goalkeeper. With a two-goal cushion, Ponte shifted focus to maintaining their lead, with Jack Wilson’s pace creating some promising moments, including a saved effort from Davidson.
Despite Bridlington holding the majority of possession in the second half, clear chances were limited. Their best opportunity came from a Kay header, comfortably saved by Mitchell.
Ponte saw out the game professionally, with the backline looking strong, including Harry Spratt, who marked his 100th appearance with a clean sheet. Captain Jack Greenhough earned Player of the Match honours for his brace and defensive contributions.
Attention now shifts to Tuesday night’s fixture against Newton Aycliffe in the North East, as Ponte look to make it five wins in a row.
