Our Wednesday Squad ran out victorious with a 3-1 home win over North of England Football Academy.
Colls welcomed our friends across from Sheffield today in what proved to be a very entertaining fixture.
The young Colls adapted well to having key personnel missing and three players were rewarded for their excellent performances in training by being brought into the match day team/squad.
Colls started brightly and looked to move the ball quickly into the attacking 3rd. When out of possession, the workfare of players to close down and make it hard for the opposition was clear for all to see.
The first goal came from good pressure high up the pitch forced the ball back to NEFA goalkeeper who was pressed by Jamie Turnpenny, who intercepted a pass forward before steadying himself to volley high into the roof of the net.
NEFA hit back immediately and good play down their left resulted in an excellent cross being volleyed home from around 8 yards out. Colls looked to hit back immediately and some good play saw Callum play Hilton through who poked the ball beyond the on rushing keeper.
Colls nearly added a third just before half time when good play found Cleggy with the ball on the edge of the box but his thunderbolt was excellently tipped over at full stretch from the NEFA keeper.
A couple of changes at half time for Colls didn’t put the players off of their stride and a Clegg long range strike could have caught out the keeper had a cleaner connection been made.
Colls keeper Lax then made a smart block after some good play from NEFA saw their striker go into the area and fire low to the keepers left. Lax then turned provider as a great long kick evaded the defender and landed perfectly for Callum who Volleyed first time over the NEFA goalkeeper.
Colls saw the game out professionally and were full value for a 3-1 win.
