The Colls fell to a 1 – 2 defeat against Leeds Utd College.
A disappointing day for Colls as we entertained Leeds at our home ground.
In all honesty, the first half was a real poor showing in comparison to the standards we’ve set ourselves in recent times. Our choices when playing out from the back put ourselves under pressure and the intensity all over the pitch was no where near what the game needed.
Leeds took a deserved lead when a straight long ball caught out the defence and the Leeds striker was able to race clear and despite the best efforts of Dooler, the ball crossed the line.
Leeds then nearly scored a wonderful goal when a good attack down the right resulted in a driven cross which the striker hit on the volley and the ball just went over the bar.
Colls then got a bit of a foothold in the game, and a great though ball from Billy saw Hilton race clear only to see his shot slide agonisingly past the post having beaten the keeper.
Colls made several changes at half time and the tempo improved, meaning much of the second half was spent in the Leeds half but a solid defensive display limited the Colls chances. A delightful cross field ball set Bouncer through and he dunked the ball over the keeper only to be taken out and a penalty awarded which Cole dispatched (see video) to restore parity.
The game followed a similar pattern with Ponte dominating until the final few minutes when the tricky Leeds forward picked up the ball out wide before driving into the box before being upended by Bambi. It was unfortunate for the defender as his performance for much of the game had been impressive and the Leeds captain stepped up to seal the victory for the Whites.
A rather underwhelming performance from the Colls and we know we expect better in terms of our energy and quality and we will look to put that right in games against Harrogate Town and Leeds United (Sheffield College) next week.
Special mention to McManus, Turps and Cole who all had solid games.
