The experience defender Ben Turner joined Pontefract half way through last season. We have been able to confirm Ben as part of the squad for next year and we spoke about the second half of last year and what can be expected next year.
Welcome back Ben, you joined The Colls at the half way stage last season, tell us how you found the second half of the season?
I thought we kicked on after Christmas and laid down some foundations for the coming season, when I joined I always said we was in a false position (second bottom) and we showed that. So now starting on 0 points with everyone else, it gives us a fighting chance.
You quickly made the left back spot your own, what made your transition into the side seem so easy?
There’s a good bunch here and a real togetherness, there’s a reason everyone has signed on again. So coming into this team was easy and hopefully I can kick on again having settled in last season.
There’s no better way to get the fans onside than scoring a late winner away from home. Tell us how important the link with the fans can be this season?
You’ve seen at home towards to end of the season the crowds were getting bigger and pushing us on. We can make this place a real fortress and win games here. There’s a great link throughout from players to management to fans and as being the only team in the town hopefully the numbers will rise.
Finally, what are your targets for this coming year?
To win as many games as possible and see where it takes us. With this group I think we can go as far as we want, but I tend to look at the table after ten games and Christmas and see where we are at. But play offs is something we will all be aiming for with the ability we have.
