The U10s girls took on Amaranth in the cup semi final this morning in their biggest game of the season.
After a glittering inaugural season for the Colls, unfortunately it wasn’t to be with Amaranth clear winners by 5 goals to 2.
The early exchanges looked promising for the Colls who created a number of half chances through Poppy, Lola and Lucy and the team were dominating possession, but right before the quarter break a rare opportunity somehow squeezed past Issy in goal. Then a second goal came with another half chance scoring past Poppy who had been forced to vacate her line as she took up goalkeeping duty.
Lola continued to be industrious in midfield supported by Erin behind her who managed to tidy up most of the attacks. Lucie again impressed in midfield but as the half wore on the heat began to take its toll. Madyson worked hard upfront had a couple of blocked shots and Hannah was finding neat passes for Lucy to latch onto. Half time 0-2.
The second half began with our opponents in menacing mood, at the back Kiera, Hannah and Isabel all stepped in with good tackles but 3 more goals effectively ended the contest. Our girls played with pride for their (new!) shirts and finally some neat play out on the left saw Lola combine with Poppy who stepped through the defence and rifled home hard and low.
Moments later another opportunity came for Lucy who latched onto a through ball from the right and swept it home to grab a second for the team.
The game drew to a close, Amaranth were deserving winners, and although it was a disappointing end to the season, as a manager I am incredibly proud of the team for a stunning first season, and they should be proud of their achievements too.
